Preview to Giving Season 2013: Q&A with #GivingTuesday creator, Henry Timms (Part 1): In our interview, we discuss the goals of the #GivingTuesday movement and plans for the future. A short audio clip is included.

A global focus on hunger and nutrition

Let’s address hunger crisis: This philly.com article is a reminder that the hunger crisis in the United States is more than just helping families get food on the table—there is a need for long-term solutions beyond government food stamp programs, food banks/pantries, and soup kitchens. Topics addressed include providing access to healthy food, combating obesity, ensuring food safety, and enhancing farming and production.

Our current work is focused on how donors can make an impact on food systems in the areas of health and hunger, the environment, rights and equity, and communities. We will present our findings at this year’s Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems Funders Forum on June 25th – 27th.

UBS Optimus Foundation Enters Global Nutrition Initiative: The Family Wealth Report gives details on how the UBS Optimus Foundation has pledged to raise millions for child health and nutrition initiatives in Africa and Asia.

Sharing Data on Homelessness

Penn conference gathers international data on reducing homelessness: Dennis Culhane of the School of Social Policy & Practice organized the International Homelessness Research Conference last week to facilitate the building of an evidence-base for programs around the world addressing homelessness.

Donor Insights

After The Giving Pledge: Giving Behaviour of 22 Donors: The UK-based Institute for Philanthropy has released survey findings of 22 donors within their network to learn if and how they’ve been influenced by the Buffett-Gates Giving Pledge. 4 of the 22 respondents have either signed the Giving Pledge or adopted its principles.

BNP Paribas Individual Philanthropy Index: Measuring Commitment in Europe, Asia, Middle East: Forbes Insights conducted its first philanthropy index from surveys of over 300 individual donors. One interesting finding is that 77% of the survey respondents either prefer anonymity or do not publicize their charitable involvement.
